Receive PodCast using IE 7 and Media player 11 then synchronize to MP3 player

Setting up IE

  1. Open Microsoft Internet Explorer 7
  2. Navigate to page with PodCast feed on it
  3. Click “Subscribe to this feed” (at top of page)
  4. Create a name and folder and click “Subscribe”
  5. Click “View feed properties” (on lower right hand side)
  6. Select:
    1. A schedule (daily is a good stat)
    2. Automatically download attached files
    3. Keep most recent items only
    4. Set number of items to something reasonable (often between 1 and 7)
  7. Click “OK”
  8. Click “Yes” to download the PodCast(s) [need at least one downloaded for next step]
  9. Open the Favourites Center (Alt-C) and pin it open
  10. Select Feeds
  11. Right click on newly created feed
  12. Select “Properties”
  13. Click on “View files”
  14. Copy the path to the Enclosures folder
(Appears like this:    C:\Users\%Username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Enclosure\{B688C5F7-5147-476B-ACB8-2B687132637F})
  15. Close dialog box
  16. Close IE

At this point the PodCast’s will be downloaded to your PC using the schedule you selected. Now we need WMP to pick them up when they arrive.

Setting up WMP

  1. Open Microsoft Windows Media Player 11
  2. Select “Library”
  3. Select “Add to Library”
  4. Click “Add”
  5. In the folder field; paste the previously copied folder path
  6. Click “OK” to close the dialog box
  7. Click “OK” to close the dialog box
  8. A searching dialog box appears (this will take a while if you have many files in your library)
  9. Find the PodCast in Media player library (Usually easiest if you know the artist)

The PodCast is now in the WMP Library. If you wish to automatically synchronize with your media device (MP3 player) then you need to perform the next step.

Synchronizing to a media device

  1. Select “Library” and “Create auto playlist”
  2. Enter an Auto Playlist name
  3. Under “Music in my library” lick on the <Green Cross> to add criteria
  4. Choose your criteria to define (I often use Album Title or Artist)
  5. Click on “[click to set]” to define the content
  6. Click “OK” to close the dialog box
  7. The playlist will appear in the list of playlist
(If it does not appear right click on the Playlist’s icon and select “Show all”)
  8. Select “Synch” on WMP toolbar
  9. In the Explorer panel on left hand side; right click on your media devices name
  10. Select “set-up synch”
  11. IF you wish to have the device synchronize each time it is connected then:
    1. Tick “Synch this device automatically”
  12. Select the newly created Playlist from the “Available Playlist’s:” and add it to the List of “playlist’s to synch:”
  13. Set the priority of these Playlist’s using the up and down buttons.
  14. Click “Finish” to close the dialog box

Now connect your media device to the PC and it will automatically synchronize your PodCast unless you selected to perform this manually.
